I have never had a web site before, how do I get started?

1. Register your domain name. We can register a domain name for you.
2. Sign up for a hosting account. We offer 3 affordable hosting accounts.
3. Design and build your web site. Our design staff is ready to assist you.
4. Upload your site using a file transfer protocol (FTP) program.

I already have a web site and a domain name. How do I transfer my site to you? Can I do this without having any downtime?

There is no charge to transfer or setup your web site with us. You would just follow the steps below:
1. Sign up for one of our hosting accounts. We will send you detailed infomation including an IP address and DNS settings.
2. Go to the web site of your domain registry and provide them with our DNS settings.
3. Set up your new mailbox via the control panel on the support page.
4. To avoid downtime, you can use FTP to upload your web site immediately without waiting for your domain name to be pointed to our servers. You can also view your web site using your new IP address prior to your domain name transfer in order to make sure it is set up properly. FTP and IP address info is e-mailed to you at the time your account is activated.

Can I keep my existing domain name if I decide to host with you?

Yes. You would just have to go to your domain registry's web site to request a DNS change.

Do you register domain names?

Yes. We register .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, and .us domain names. Learn more information about registering your own domain with PearlDesign.net.

Do I have to register my domain name with you in order to host it with you?

No. You can register your domain with any registrar.

Do I have to host my web site with you if I registered my domain through your web site?

No. You can host your web site elsewhere and still keep your domain registration with us.

Do you have to design my site in order to host it?

No. You can design it yourself or use another design firm.

What operating system do you run for your hosting accounts?

We offer our customers a choice between Unix or Windows NT based servers.

What type of software can I use to upload my site to your servers?

You can use any FTP program, DreamWeaver, Adobe GoLive, NetObjects Fusion, Microsoft FrontPage, and many others. Contact us if you need a reccommendation.

If I pay for the whole year of hosting up front, what happens if I cancel in 6 months?

You will receive a refund for the remaining 6 months or whatever time you have not used.

What type of content can I place on my web site?

We do not host adult content. Otherwise, we do not restrict the content of our customers' sites as long as it is legal. Please see our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy for more information. If you need further definition, please contact support.
